Day 8

Another successful night last night. We only had to wake up twice to fees Brayden and were able to get 3 hours of sleep in between feedings.

Even though we've improved the feeding schedule, we still can't anticipate the poop schedule. More often than not, Brayden poops right after I change him, or he pees as I am changing him.

We went for a walk around the neighborhood today. Sherry pushed the stroller around and I walked the dogs. It was really hot day today.

We spent some time during the day trying to play with Brayden on one of his playsets. We were able to keep him awake for at least an extra hour before having to feed him.

Sherry spent most of the day feeding and resting as much a she can. I spent most of the day cleaning, and laundry.

They announced the NBA MVP today in Derrick Rose. In honor of the MVP award I have my own set of MVPs:
1. Sherry
2. Alvin
3. Roomba

The Roomba did put up a fight for second place but alas could never stray from his single task of just vacuuming floors whereas Alvin was able to multitasking and accomplish more. Sherry won the unanimous number 1 votes for her dedication to feeding Brayden while trying to recover from surgery.

Below are the rankings in the least valuable category:
1. JD
2. Collette

This was a close race as both dogs were whining and barking incessantly during the day. However, JD edged out Collette due to her high pitched whining and constant attempts to knock down the gate dividing the game room and living room.

Sorry I didn't post any pictures yesterday but I do have several today to make up for it.

Here's one where Brayden is sporting a hairstyle inspired by his grand uncle Sonny:

Day 7

Brayden is 1 week old today!!! After using the techniques from the lactation nurse yesterday we were finally able to get some continuous sleep. Brayden slept well through the night giving is at least 3 hour intervals between feedings. So basically we only had to get up twice during the night as opposed to 5 times. The down side of course is the diaper changing. Every time I had to change Brayden, he'd poop as I was putting on the new diaper. I probably went through 15-20 diapers today.

To get Sherry moving around to help with her recovery we decided to take a walk at Huntington Beach. It was a great beach day today and we walked to the pier before Sherry couldn't bear walking anymore.

Brayden's Uncle Mikey (Sherry's brother) and Aunt Jamie (Alvin's cousin) visited today. They came during Brayden's afternoon nap so they weren't really able to hold him.

Brayden slept for long periods today. We think it must be the warm weather. We tried to feed him enough tonight so that we can duplicate the rest we got last night. Let's hope it works!

Day 6

Last night was probably one o the worst nights. Brayden kept waking up every hour on the hour crying and crying. Sherry is getting frustrated with the breast feeding but she's hanging on there. We had a one on one with a lactation consultant today and she taught Sherry some tricks on how to breastfeed more efficiently and how to slowly turn Brayden's sleep schedule the right way. So apparently we weren't feeding Brayden enough during each feeding which is why he doesn't sleep for long periods of time. The lactation consultant was very helpful and we were able to monitor how much he was eating with the scale they had. So apparently Brayden is back to his birth weight now. This was very reassuring to us ad especially Sherry since she was concerned the baby wasn't getting enough food. The pediatrician called also and said his birulin levels are good and not to worry about jaundice anymore.

We spent the rest of today practicing the techniques we learned from the lactation consultant. Brayden's poop is actually starting to smell now. I guess all the meconium is gone from his system. He's pooping a lot now also.

We started dressing Brayden in the onesies designed by our friends from the baby shower. They look really good on him, pictures to follow this post.

Both Sherry and I keep forgetting what day of the week it is. Were in a routine of changing diapers, feeding, sleeping now. Though surprisingly we have adjusted well to it. Our dogs JD and Collette are starting to get the hang of things too. I've bought a gate to separate the game room from the living room to prevent the dogs from bringing their dirty paws into the living room. I also bought a roomba (robotic vacuum cleaner) to help with the chores around the house. It seems to be doing a better job at cleaning than our regular vacuum cleaner. It's not too noisy and does create "white noise" which helps when the baby is sleeping.

Day 5

Sherry and I got a little more sleep. Brayden is still fussy during the night but he's able to sleep for longer periods of time now. I took him out in the sun to help with his jaundice and he loved it. He was crying up a storm and when I brought him outside he immediately stopped, stretched out his arms and legs and passed out. After a few minutes I brought him inside and he immediately started crying again. JD (our Siberian Husky) started acclimating herself with Brayden. She likes to sniff him and mimic him. When Brayden cries, JD cries too. Sherry is still in pain from the surgery but is getting more sleep each and every night.

Here's a picture of Brayden sunbathing:
