Pooping Pains

Brayden is a little over 5 weeks old now!  Time goes by so fast.  We're still on the same schedule of having shifts at night with Alvin taking the evening to early morning shift and then switching with Sherry.  Supplementing with formula is doing a number on his system.  His poops are more spread apart (since formula takes longer to digest) and when it comes, it's a big load.  The time between poops, Brayden spends his time groaning, grunting, pulling his legs up to his stomach.  We try to add the anti-gas drops in his formula and it helps sometimes but not always.  He seems to like the Enfamil Gentlease the best, but we've switched to Similac Sensitive for this week since we're basically going through the free samples we got over time.  Once the samples are gone we'll probably switch back to Enfamil.  We were using the Gerber Gentle Start formula last week and a half but it seemed to be hurting his stomach.

Brayden is a little more interactive now.  Well sort of.  He likes to make baby noises here and there when you talk to him so at least it seems like he responds.  When he's awake he likes to play and move his arms and legs around.  He has pretty strong legs.  His kicks are really strong and if you hold him the wrong way on your lap, he can propel himself off.

The Valera grandparents came over during Memorial Day Weekend and they were very helpful.  Grandma planted some plants in the front yard and Grandpa fixed some of the screens on the windows.  Anthony came by and helped Alvin mount the TV to the wall in the living room.  Brayden seems behaved whenever the grandparents are in town.  Sherry and Alvin were able to go out on Saturday night to watch the Hangover 2.  It was a nice break, but Sherry was worried and always thinking about Brayden during the movie which was completely natural.

Phong and Tuong-Vi had a barbecue on Sunday, but Sherry and Brayden were too tired to go out that night, so Alvin went for a couple of hours to represent.  We visited the Kwongs new house on Monday afternoon and met up with Toshi as well.

The week has gone by so fast.  We haven't been able to update the blog since we've been so busy.  Alvin's work hours keep increasing and he doesn't sleep until around 3:30-4 in the morning and goes back to work again at 830.  Thankfully Brayden is able to sleep during the times Alvin watches him at night.  Sherry's been exhausted lately, but she's hanging in there.  She loves watching Brayden, and is so entertained by him.  He's definitely growing as some of his clothes that used to be so big are now pretty tight on him.  His diapers are seemingly "shrinking" too.  We switched to Size 1 yesterday, which seem pretty big on him and there have been some leakage,  but probably will fit much better in a few days.

Tomorrow is graduation day at Sherry's school and the class Sherry first taught three years ago is graduating. She will be attending both the morning mass and award ceremony and then the graduation ceremony in the evening.  This will be good for her since it'll give her something different to do for that day.  Alvin will stay at home in the morning to watch Brayden.

Day 28 and 29

Sherry visited the lactation consultant on Tuesday.  She wasn't sure if she was giving Brayden enough food since he was always feeding during the day and this was very counter productive as it kept Sherry stuck on the couch all day.  The lactation consultant noticed that Brayden had poor feeding habits because he kept sleeping every time he ate and wasn't getting full in the time alloted for feeding.  The lactation consultant gave Sherry more tips on feeding Brayden.  They weighed him during the consultation and he was a little over 8 lbs now!  Sherry took the advice to heart, and later in the night Brayden was full and slept like champ.  During my shift, I was able to get him to sleep for an hour and a half, and after the second feeding, about two and a half hours.  Though he spent a lot of the two and a half hours grunting and farting (though he was asleep).

On Wednesday, Sherry had a few errands to run with Brayden.  They went to JC Penney portrait studio to pick up the family portraits we took a week and a half ago.  They brought Auntie Ally some In N Out for her birthday lunch. The whole time during their morning excursion, Brayden kept crying and crying and finally stopped when they were on their way home.  He hasn't pooped all day yet, so we're a little concerned that this is the calm before the storm.  We were waiting for him to poop all day since we wanted to give him a bath, but unfortunately he hasn't pooped yet so we ended up giving him a bath anyways.  He is sleeping much better today, most likely because he is getting more productive feedings from Sherry.

Thinking about not sleeping today...

Days 23-27

Busy week and weekend.  I didn't have much time to update the blog.  Work has been kicking my butt lately.  Tight deadlines, lots of work, extra hours, no incentives, low motivation.  Such is life.  I'm not complaining, I'm just going to use this project as a stepping stone to something better once I complete it.  Here's some highlights of the week...

Days 23 and 24:
I can't really recall what happened four days ago.  I remember having to work during the night.  Brayden got some good sleep in on both Thursday and Friday.  He slept at least 3 hours on Thursday during one span.  Sherry's been feeding/sleeping with him on the couch.  For some reason Brayden knows when Sherry is feeding him.  Because he refuses to sleep in the bassinet whenever she tries to put him down.  By refusing to sleep, I mean he cries bloody murder.  I usually have an easier time putting Brayden in his bassinet after a bottle feeding.

Days 25 and 26:
Saturday was a nice break from the routine and being stuck inside the house.  I played basketball in the morning, came home, got the family ready to go to Linh's birthday party at the Columbus Square pool.  Getting ready to leave the house is such an adventure.  Just when you think you've got the timing down, the baby throws a wrench in the works.  It's actually quite funny.  I think they should give parents a "baby watch" once their child is born.  This watch would be a slow moving watch that gradually speeds up over time.  Initially the time should be for every 1 minute of real time that passes, the watch moves at a 2 minute rate (thereby only 30 seconds pass on the watch since it takes almost twice as long to get ready).  As the child gets older, the watch gets faster to the point where it moves according to real time.  That way, when you look at the watch, you won't feel as rushed to get ready and you'll always be "on time" according to your watch.  Yeah I know it sounds ridiculous, but as a parent, I can totally understand and cherish that everything is according to Brayden's clock.   In any case, as we were getting ready to go to the pool, it was time for Brayden's poop session.  Since we've been giving him formula, his poops occur less often averaging 1 to 1.5 day intervals.  The past few days have been a horrid sludge fest in his diaper and on Saturday, it was no exception.  To give Brayden a "clean slate" for the day, we decided to give him a bath before leaving the house.  Sherry got his bath ready and I started the cleanup.  Boy was it messy.  I think I prefer the poop in installments instead of having him deposit in one lump sum.  The lump sum poop includes interest sometimes.  Ok enough of the graphic details.  Brayden was very well behaved the rest of the afternoon and the evening.  He would cry occasionally but nothing a bottle full of formula couldn't fix.  He slept through most of the time we were at the pool.  Then the party moved to Linh's house.  Brayden was the perfect house guest.  He was asleep for pretty much the whole time we were there.  We only had to feed him a couple of times but he caught up on some good rest.

When we got home later that night he was wide awake, so we played with him for a bit then Sherry went to bed.  While Sherry slept, we ended up watching some parts of Saturday Night Live.  Justin Timberlake was the host and he's always hilarious.  I finally got Brayden to sleep around 1:30 am for about an hour to an hour and a half then Sherry and I switched off around 3:30 am.  I was pretty restless still, so I stayed up and ended up watching The King's Speech (which should've been called The King's Speech Impediment, I know it's mean, but at least be honest with the title instead of beating around the bush).  It was a good movie and I was hoping it was going to put me to sleep but that was a fail.

Finally slept around 4:30 and Sherry got Brayden to sleep around the same time.  We all woke up around 6:30 in the morning and I had to get the house cleaned up because we were expecting visitors later in the day (the Englanders).  JD's winter coat is still clinging to her so I gave her a good brushing to get most of it off.  Filled about half a garbage bag full of fur.  Ran the vacuum through the game room a couple of times.  The Englanders ended up cancelling since their son Maxwell had a runny nose, so we spent the rest of Sunday lounging at home.  Though lounging isn't really the right word.  Brayden was sooooo fussy all day.  Though we kind of figured out why.  Every time he was about to pass gas, he'd cry out like he was in pain then a big blast of air would shoot out of rear end.  This happened the whole day.  The expulsion of gas was always preceded by an agonizing cry.  The worst part is that it stinks.  I blame the formula...mainly because his farts smell like rotten formula.  He seemed to be unusually warm, but every time we checked his temperature he was fine.  I finally gave him some anti gas medicine in the evening and that seemed to help a little.  Well, at least he wasn't crying every time he farted.  We got back to our regular shifts where I took care of him from 9-3 and Sherry took over from 3-9...well she took over for the rest of the day basically.  I'll probably need to increase my shifts to make it more fair, but we don't really want to feed him that much formula, the main goal is just to supplement him with formula with the main source of food coming from breast milk.  The problem is that Sherry has trouble finding time or space to pump when she's home alone since she's constantly feeding Brayden during the day and he refuses to sleep anywhere except close to her.  Hopefully she can figure out a way to get him to sleep on his own soon, so she doesn't get stuck.

Day 27
Back to work in the morning.  Busy as ever.  Finally got my TDAP vaccination at Walgreens.  The pharmacist seemed he was scared of needles as he stood far back when he injected me with the vaccine.  It was almost like he was launching a dart on my arm.  I think he hit a bad spot since I started trickling a lot of blood instantly, then he was like "Oh, you're a bleeder".  I grumbled some indiscernible negative words his way as he half assed the bandaids on my arm.  Brayden was up to his usual schedule again where he's awake in the morning.  Sherry played with him during the times he was awake and read to him.  It's 10PM and I finally got him to sleep around 9:30 today.  He'll probably be up in a half hour or so again for a feeding which is fine.  I got some time to kill and some work to do anyway.  Tuesdays are tricky since I have a video conference meeting in the morning at work around 8 AM.  Getting to work early is no bueno, since I usually do some cleaning or give Sherry a breather so she can take a shower, etc...in the morning before I go to work.  I'll probably just have to come home for lunch earlier so she can get some time to herself to freshen up.

Brayden will be 4 weeks old tomorrow!  Time certainly does fly.  It seemed like he was born last week.  I'll post some pictures in the subsequent post.

Day 22

I think we've flipped Brayden's schedule.  He likes to stay awake during the day and just eats and takes 20 minute naps then repeats.  At night he's able to sleep in 1-2 hour intervals, sometimes 3 if we're lucky.   Though we've noticed he sleeps better if Alvin is watching him.  That may just be coincidence though.  We were able to get him to sleep in his bassinet last night using the Boppy Noggin as an aid (prevents flatheadness).  Sherry was able to get some quality sleep last night as Alvin watched Brayden from 9 pm to 4:30 am.  It kind of works out anyway since Alvin brings home work and it gives Sherry some much needed rest and a break from taking care of Brayden.  Tonight we're going to try and put him in the crib and see if he likes it.  We're tired of sleeping on the couch.  We've set up the baby monitor his Uncle Patrick and Aunt Jenna and Lola Nina bought him.  It's been getting harder each day to try and calm Brayden down.  Once he starts crying, it takes some time to get him to settle down.

Picture Updates Week 3

These pictures were taken with the Canon S95 though it seems Blogspot changes the resolution on them when uploaded to the Blog.

Day 21

Brayden is 3 weeks old today!  Seems like he was born yesterday.  He's still tiny but we can definitely tell the differences in his features from when he was born.  His face is a little fuller and he's less wrinkly all over.  He's got "pimples" all over that go away after a day.  His skin is dry in areas.  He eats like a champ and barely sleeps.  All he wants to do during the day is eat.  The good thing is that he's wide awake during the day.  Though Sherry doesn't think this is a good thing since she's stuck on the couch feeding him all day.  Though they do go out at least once a day to bring Alvin some breakfast (like today) or go to the beach.  Alvin had to work last night and early this morning and forgot that he had a meeting early in the morning.  Sherry is starting to have a little cabin fever from being stuck in the house all day.  Her main concerns are that she's unable to clean up around the house during the day because Brayden is always hungry and barely sleeps.  Brayden does have trouble going to sleep when Alvin is taking care of him at night so Alvin started singing to him.  The songs he sings are "Count on Me" by Bruno Mars, "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz, "Hey Soul Sister" by Train, "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", and "Row Row Row Your Boat".  By the end of "Row Row Your Boat", Brayden is usually asleep.  He tried to mix in a little Backstreet Boys in there but Brayden started wailing so either Brayden doesn't like BSB or Alvin was out of tune.

Sherry is really exhausted and is more so as each day goes by.  Alvin is hanging in there and does the things Sherry is unable to do during the day.  For tonight instead of taking shifts, Alvin decided that Sherry needed a break and asked her to get a full night's rest.  Alvin will have to make do w/ pumped milk and formula to supplement.

We bought the Boppy Noggin per Linh's recommendation.  It seems like a very useful sleeping aid for Brayden and does seem like it will prevent the flat head syndrome.  We tried placing it in the bassinet but Brayden for some reason doesn't like sleeping in it.  He'd rather sleep in the play pen's bassinet.  Tomorrow we're going to try using the crib to see if Brayden is more comfortable there.  Alvin and Sherry have been taking turns sleeping on the couch when taking care of Brayden during the night in order to let the other person get some undisturbed sleep in the bedroom.  Both their backs are starting to hurt so it probably means it's time for a new couch.

Alvin tried using the Baby Bjorn on Brayden today.  Brayden was hungry at the time so we don't think he acclimated to it well and was too focused on getting something to eat.

We've been so focused on our daily tasks of working, cleaning, and taking care of Brayden that it's been pretty hard to keep track of what day of the week it is.  I'm sure we'll start to get into a rhythm soon as we learn more and more about Brayden's habits and tendencies, even though everyday is a new adventure, it's definitely worth it.

Day 20

Sherry and Alvin split shifts last night.  Alvin took 8-1 and Sherry took 1-6.  Brayden slept for 1.5 to 2 hour intervals all night.  He's definitely eating more as he is able to finish 4 oz of formula in one sitting.  Sherry took Brayden to the beach today where they walked around for about an hour before Brayden started crying.   Sherry spent the rest of the afternoon feeding him.  He's been really gassy the past few days but he doesn't hold it in which is good.  There'll be a few sounds from him every so often.  Suffice to say have no trouble getting him to burp.  Still waiting for the flash memory card for the new camera we bought.  Hopefully the pictures with that camera look much better than the iPhone pictures we've been posting.

Day 18 and 19

Thankfully Brayden's sleeping patterns improved.  Friday night was definitely a godsend and Brayden was able to sleep in 3 hour intervals.  Sherry and I were both well rested (more so than before) on Saturday morning.  The sleep positioning seemed to help by keeping his head slightly elevated.  We also bought different formula going with the Gerber Good Start Gentle Plus formula on Friday night.  Brayden seemed to like the flavor of this formula over the Enfamil Newborn and Similac (he hated Similac).  Unfortunatelythe batch of Gerber we bought came in 8oz cans which are too big, so we we'd need to split them up in order to effectively used them.  We also bought the Enfamil Gentlease formula which we used for most of the weekend.  This formula seemed to work better for Brayden as he was less fussy.  The result was that since he wasn't storing gas in his belly anymore, he was letting it go at random intervals.  Whenever Alvin would try to burp Brayden, the baby would burp from his butt more often than from his mouth.

Alvin spent most of Saturday morning playing basketball with his friends while Sherry took care of Brayden.  Sherry appreciated the smaller shifts (as opposed to the longer shifts during the week when Alvin is at work).  Alvin, Sherry, and Brayden met up for lunch an had lunch with the Le's (Phong, Tuong-Vi, Thong, Linh, Hong, and Nathan) at the Irvine Marketplace.  This was a great time to break from the daily grind of being at home and just concentrating on taking care of Brayden.  It was great to see their friends again.  Since it was Alvin's shift on Saturday afternoon, Sherry spent her break going to the mall and getting her hair done.  Brayden spent most of the afternoon sleeping so Alvin was stuck watching whatever was on TV.  He ended up watching Justin Bieber's Never Say Never which he mildly enjoyed.  The night's entertainment was Parking Wars which is a show about meter maids around the country.  It was amusing as to how people who do not pay their parking tickets get so upset when their car gets the boot or gets towed away.  It is kind of sad how society has a trend to not admit to their mistakes and tries to weasel their way out of being at fault.

On Sunday, Brayden was starting to get fussy again (maybe he's only good during the weekends)?  Alvin spent the morning cleaning the pool and doing laundry, while Sherry took care of Brayden.  The family took a mini-adventure away from being at home and go their portraits taken at JC Penney.  The session was ok, but our timing with Brayden was a little off.  By the time we had arrived at the portrait studio, Brayden had just woken up from his nap (ok...he didn't just wake up, we kind of woke him up when we transferred him from his bassinet to the car seat, but we had to make our appointment).  He threw a tantrum the whole way through.  Giving him some milk seemed to help, but we basically were able to calm him down in 3 minute intervals while we were getting our photos taken.  He was very active during the photo shoot and kept moving his arms and legs around.  Afterwards we went to Babies R Us and BestBuy.  Alvin bought a better point and shoot camera (Canon S95), which was on sale at BestBuy.  We bought more swaddle blankets at Babies R Us, since Brayden seems to make a mess of the two we do have on a nightly basis.

Anthony visited us in the afternoon to watch the Heat and Bulls game.  The Bulls are such a great defensive team.  Their bench is pretty deep and it will be tough for Miami to beat them even with their 3 superstars. Alvin cooked some spagehetti and meatballs for dinner.

The Thinking Napper

Here's Brayden thinking really hard during a nap. Maybe that's why he has trouble sleeping.

Day 16 and 17

We were unable to log in to the blog and write up a post so we have to consolidate it here.  Day 16 was no bueno for Sherry.  Since Alvin is back at work, she had to care for Brayden all by herself.  It wouldn't have been too much of a problem but Brayden was awake the whole time and was being fussy.  He would cry and mouth asking for food, but when offered he would spit it out and cry again until eventually he would take it.  Sherry was unable to leave the couch all day.  The only times she got a break was when Alvin would come home for a couple of hours during lunch and when he got home from work.  In the evening, Alvin took over for feeding Brayden by supplementing with formula.  We tried Similac this time but Brayden did not like the taste of it and it took him a long time to finish eating.  Brayden also hated lying on his back.  Every time we put him down to sleep, he'd scream and wail.  Alvin kept him on his shoulders for a few hours.  During this time Alvin's work called due to an emergency so he had to keep one arm on Brayden on his shoulder, and used the other arm to work on the computer.  Finally, Alvin read up on the internet that Brayden may have reflux due to eating formula so he set up his bassinet so that Brayden slept on his side.  Sure enough, in the sideways position, Brayden slept for another 2 and a half hours.  During this time Alvin was able to finish up his work.  The next time Brayden woke up, he was wide awake and refused to sleep keeping both Alvin and Sherry up from 3 to 7 in the morning.

Friday the 13th hit and all hell broke loose.  Brayden was continually being fussy, not wanting to sleep, able to pee his way through his diapers (due to having generic brand diapers).  Sherry was at her wits end as she was thoroughly exhausted from feeding Brayden.  Alvin was also pushed to his limits as work called early in the morning due to a crisis with a customer that had to be resolved ASAP.  Alvin had to leave for work earlier than expected and left Sherry with a super fussy Brayden.  Sherry took Brayden to the beach for about an hour and walked around.  This seemed to calm the baby down.  However, he was fussy on the car ride home but finally fell asleep again once they got home.  Alvin came home in the mid afternoon to watch Brayden for a couple of hours while Sherry got some time to herself to go to the mall and run some errands.  Surprisingly, Brayden slept for a few hours.  We're just hoping he sleeps well the rest of the night.  After reading "Baby 411", we found out that we probably shouldn't have Brayden sleep on his side.  The book suggested raising his head to a 30 degree angle to prevent the reflux or using a car seat.  Alvin padded the bassinets with some blankets underneath the sheets to provide some pseudo pillows.

We bought some formula that should be easier on Brayden's stomach.  We suspect he has some gas issues which is causing his fussiness.  We also purchased some anti-gas and anti-fussiness drops which should be arriving sometime next week.

Day 15

Brayden was fussy all night. He refused to sleep and just made random noises and ate an pooped. The fussiness is becoming a recurring theme here. Alvin took the first shift and fed and watched Brayden from 8pm to 3am. Sherry took the second shift from 3 am to 7 am. Since it was Alvin's first day back at work he took the 7 am to 9 am shift before leaving for work.

Sherry had a difficult time with Brayden as he refused to sleep. Sherry was worried about him all day and couldn't really do anything else. Alvin came home for lunch to help out and give Sherry a break even for only an hour.

Starting to run out of diapers and we found a pack of newborns from a generic brand that said it was leakproof. Sure enough, these diapers leaked right through.

Day 14

Brayden is two weeks old today!  We went to visit his pediatrician today to do the procedural checkup.  Everything looked good.  He weighed in at 6 lbs 15 ozs today.  Wayyyy ahead of schedule.  The doctor was so impressed with his weight.  She thought he would be at his birth weight at this point.  Brayden did so well at the doctors office and didn't put up a fight.  He was really fussy on the ride home though.  Uncle Erich visited him this afternoon and held him and bought some pizza and wings.

Sherry also had a two week doctor's appointment with her OB.  Everything went well.  She was healing right on schedule and has been approved to drive.  She's still limited to walk 1 mile a day and can't hit the gym yet.

I bought a new gate to divide the game room and living room.  I replaced the wooden one with a metal one that's a little higher, stronger, and easier to open.  JD hates it.

The pool vacuum arrived today.  The old Kreepy Krawly broke down a few weeks ago, so it was tough to clean the bottom of the pool.  The new Baracuda G3 is pretty awesome.  It's quiet and seems to do a better job than the Kreepy Krawly.

Today is Alvin's last day of "vacation".   Sherry is stressing about being alone with Brayden.

Here's the picture of the day taken at the pediatrician's office:

Day 13

I forgot to add from yesterday that his Auntie Alma, Uncle Danny, and cousin Nathan gave visited and brought Brayden and AC/DC t-shirt.  Rock on!

Last night was pretty rough again.  Brayden had trouble sleeping even after we had kept him awake during the day.  He was up from midnight to 3 am again last night.  Sherry and I gave each other breaks today but letting the other leave the house for at least 3 hours.  This morning Sherry went to the mall and went grocery shopping.  Alvin spent the time watching Brayden sleep, poop, reading Brayden a book and playing with him in his "jungle gym".  Alvin took a couple hours off in the afternoon to play basketball.  We're both hoping tonight will be a more restful night as Brayden spent most of the day awake and didn't really sleep too much (probably an hour or two here and there).

Day 11 and Day 12

Had to combine two days today.  Was so exhausted and busy yesterday that I didn't create an entry.  Highlights of Day 11: circumcision ring fell off.  Signs were pointing that this ring was going to fall of today.  Earlier in the morning he had some light blood in his diaper.  We were a little concerned so we called the pediatrician who told us to monitor the blood and if it continued to bring Brayden in.  Fortunately subsequent diaper changes didn't result in any more blood so we weren't too worried about it.  Friday night was a pretty tough night for the both of us.  Brayden seemed like he wasn't getting enough food but we think it's the fact that he's growing and needs more milk as each week passes.  The Valera grandparents and grand auntie Wilma came by in the afternoon and played with Brayden.  They were able to keep him awake for almost two hours during the day.  This gave Sherry some time to get some much needed rest in the afternoon/early evening.  We kept Brayden asleep in the bassinet in the living room during the evening as we watched the Pacquiao/Mosley fight.  Brayden was out cold for almost four hours during htis time.   The good thing was that Brayden slept through most of the night (3-4 hours in between feedings) and we only had to get up twice instead of the usual three to four times.  Sherry was ecstatic as she probably got in almost 7 hours of sleep yesterday.

Highlights of Day 12:  Brayden and Sherry's first Mother's Day!  Brayden's umbilical cord fell off today.  Brayden got his mom a footprint charm and had it engraved with his initials.  His grandma Nina visited us today.  She took the train from Chatsworth and got off at the Anaheim station which is literally right next to Angel Stadium.  We celebrated mother's day with a brunch at the Cheesecake Factory.  Brayden did well as he was passed out during the whole meal.  He only woke up on the way home.  He spent most of the afternoon awake and playing with his grandparents and took a long nap after they left.

Day 10

So just when we thought we got the hang of Brayden's feeding, he threw us a curveball.  Last night he was a very fussy eater, and took his time.  We tried the tricks that were taught to us by the lactation consultant but it didn't seem to speed up his eating.  Each feeding lasted 2-3 hours last night.  After Sherry went to bed around midnight, Brayden was still wide awake and hungry.  I wanted Sherry to get some much needed rest, so I tried to substitute Brayden's food with formula.  After going through 40 ml of formula, and 4 changes of diapers, I finally got him to go to bed around 3 in the morning.  He woke up at 5 am, but at least Sherry was able to get at least 5 hours of straight sleep.  I also woke up at 5 am to help bring Brayden to Sherry and burp him.

The fussy feedings continued all through the morning and afternoon and night.  We managed to keep Brayden awake for most of the day today in hopes of having him exhausted and sleeping longer during the night. Steve and Regina gave us a jungle themed mat which plays music and has many toy animals.  We used this to try and stimulate Brayden while he was awake.  Brayden also had about 5 minutes of tummy time as well which he took like a champ, though he started to get frustrated towards the end.  We read several books to him, though the whole time he kept mouthing that he was hungry. We took a break from being cooped up in the house and went to a nearby park, where Sherry walked around with the stroller and I was able to shoot some hoops for about 45 minutes.  When we got home, Sherry and I were feeling exhausted so we ate an early dinner and went through the process of getting Brayden to get ready to go to sleep.  We gave him a "short" two hour nap before feeding him again and letting him sleep for another few hours.

So, the 7th generation diapers are also leak prone though not as bad as the Huggies diapers.  The best ones so far that I've used were the Pampers Swaddlers for newborns.  Haven't had an accident in those yet.

Today was a good day in terms of diaper changing, well at least for me (I can't say the same for Sherry).  I was able to foil Brayden's attempts to spray his pee and poop everywhere.

Day 9

Stupid dogs. Ruined my sleep last night. Both JD an Collette kept whining all morning long starting from 2am til 5am. Not sure what was bugging them since they were fine the previous days. So every hour on the hour I'd check up on them, give them water or let them go outside and they'd go back to sleep, but then wake up and whine at the top of the following hour. Hopefully they'll be good tonight.

Brayden has been keeping us entertained with his randomness. His poop schedule mystefies us. Today he was the poop cannon. Every time I'd change a dirty diaper he'd shoot out poop in between the time I remove the dirty one to the new one. I got better at placing towels or waiting a little bit but his timing is so random it's hard to guess when it's going to happen.

Note to self, Huggies newborn diapers leak. Never use them again. Surprisigly the 7th generation brand newborn diapers my cousin Jamie brought over work remarkably well. Even bette than the Pampers swaddlers ones.

Brayden has also been fussy during feeding times. He keeps pushing away the food source initially and then eventually takes it in. As a result feeding times have increased from 40 min to over an hour now.
